AUDITIONS
This page provides all the information available about current openings with The Apex Singers, including relevant application forms and materials.
We are auditioning for a new Alto singer to join us.
While the group is Manchester-based for rehearsals and occasional recording projects, we welcome applications from those based outside Manchester.
All singers in the ensemble are contracted on a freelance basis.
Please note that the submission deadline is 5pm, January 19th, 2026.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person audition which will take place in Manchester, January 26th-30th, 2026.
JOB DESCRIPTION
-
Perform with The Apex Singers live. The live calendar is ever-growing, and currently consists of approximately 15 concerts annually, primarily as part of UK-based tours.

Contribute to the ensemble’s development, including exploring opportunities for international tours.

Participate in recording projects, which are typically structured as residential sessions.

Engage with audiences and communities through educational workshops and masterclasses.

Attend rehearsals and occasional recording sessions based in Manchester.

Perform music from memory and uphold high standards of musicianship and vocal health.
REQUIREMENTS
​A versatile vocalist:
-
with the ability to blend seamlessly in an 8-part a cappella setting, and also shine as a soloist.

who is comfortable performing diverse repertoire in multiple langauges, and navigating the demands of live, recorded, and educational contexts.

who is enthusiastic about being part of a dynamic, growing ensemble with ambitious plans for the future.

who can commit to becoming a permanent member of the ensemble. This is not a substitute or temporary role.

RECORDING INFORMATION
Your recording does not need to be high quality.

If using your phone to record, please ensure we can hear your voice clearly.

Recordings with heavy post-production will be discarded - we want to hear your natural voice.

Scores and MIDI tracks of the relevant arrangement extracts have been provided below.​
Please submit two recordings:
1. Song of your choice
This should be performed a cappella, without a backing track. Choose a song that you feel best showcases your voice, keeping in mind the genre and sound world we specialise in.
2. An extract of and Apex arrangement:
Information of this is available in the Google Drive folder linked below. Please read the "Alto Recording Instructions" document carefully.
Please record yourself singing this extract using the provided MIDI track as accompaniment. If you’re recording on your phone, you can play the MIDI track aloud in the room. Just make sure your voice is clearly audible over the MIDI.
