Lydia is a Manchester-based soprano who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music until 2019 under the guidance of Sandra Dugdale. Since graduating with a first class honours degree in Opera & Vocal Studies Lydia has been pursuing a singing career whilst working at Chetham's School of Music. Most recently she has recorded and released the new album 'Hiraeth' with The Apex Singers, with whom she opened the International Irish A Capella Festival alongside Apollo 5 in the summer of 2019. She is also happy to have secured a place as a member of Genesis Sixteen's 2020 cohort.
She sang her first full role in 2019 as the Child in Eldad Diamant's '5Stones', a challenging, composed-theatre piece for chamber ensemble that premiered at the RNCM. Amongst other engagements Lydia has been the soloist in the RNCM Chamber Choir's 'I Hear the Rain' project at Victoria Baths, alto soloist in Beethoven's 9th symphony on Manchester University's tour to Ireland, and soloist in Schubert's Mass in G with the Camerata Players.
Since making the move from Paris to Manchester five years ago Lydia has quickly become a member of half a dozen professional chamber choirs across Manchester and has now worked with the Welsh National Opera, BBC Philharmonic, Hallé, and RLPO. She has also enjoyed recording albums for Decca, Prima Facie and Naxos with Kantos Chamber Choir.
She feels privileged to be a member of The Apex Singers. To be surrounded by such passionate people and music is incredibly uplifting. The folk music of 'Hiraeth' will always hold a special place in her heart as a reminder of the ensemble's beginnings.
